You can transplant hearts, but you cannot transplant a warm heart." --Dalai Lama A day filled with kindness. A day focused on kindness. A day where individuals co-created an intentional space on kindness. At first glance, kindness may seem “light” compared to vulnerability, forgiveness, resilience (sister themes of previous retreats). But, in the lightness, the group held space to sit with kindness. We began the day with one hour of mediation. The first hour of mediation could serve many purposes to each individual: On this day, it seemed to serve to slow the waves of our thoughts, so we could each more easily feel what was going on beneath the surface. Apr 14, 2014, 1 comments, 5 smiles I really enjoyed the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. They pulled together these beautiful stories of individuals who followed their hearts to serve and take journeys that were based on values. I am sure you will enjoy reading through these for a dose of inspiration.
Apr 08, 2014, 2 comments, 4 smiles I found this article so moving as this author began to pray for others, and how that gave him freedom inside. "I BEGAN to pray for the people who were passing by. I prayed for the nanny pushing a stroller. I prayed for the young woman jogging by in spandex. I prayed for the little boy pedaling his bicycle. I prayed that each of them got the same things that I wanted for myself: that they have good health, peace of mind, financial security. By focusing on others and their needs, my own problems seemed less unique and, somehow, less pressing."
Jan 09, 2014, 1 comments, 7 smiles During yesterday's Wednesday in NYC Sarika and I were pleasantly surprised to have nearly 17 people come together during the polar vortex to sit :) The shares were vulnerable and the space was glowing! We ate delicious kitchari and salad in silence, and enjoyed coconut water and hot apple cider that was gifted to the circle. Everyone smiling and with the warmth of hugs all around to brave the cold weather.
Dec 26, 2013, 2 comments, 6 smiles At a Starbucks in Newington, CT, some 450 people paid for the drink orders of the people behind them on Christmas day. Customers are still paying it forward on Thursday morning.
Nov 26, 2013, 6 smiles I am moved by the introspective view on money, security and significance by Pope Francis. "I prefer a Church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets, rather than a Church which is unhealthy from being confined and from clinging to its own security."
