Nov 14, 2019, 4 comments, 16 smiles We (ReforestIndia) were invited to set up a small stall at a conference where about 350 of the industry’s CEOs/MDs were meeting to discuss “the future of manufacturing”. I couldn’t resist... And this was born... I think you will enjoy it :)
Jul 20, 2018, 3 smiles HOW TO PLANT A TREE ( FOR SOMEONE YOU LOVE) sometime ago, reforestIndia got a call from a few folks at enableIndia- an organization that trains the visually impaired to be "job ready". a group of 5 visually impaired people wished to volunteer to plant trees. "how many trees do you wish to plant?" we asked. (usually, the average response is 1 tree, 2 trees or maybe even 7 to 10 trees. no more.) but these people had a greater vision. "we want to plant 500 trees" they said. "fine. would you like to start with 50 trees?" ok. ok. before this call happened, we'd been getting many requests from tree lovers asking us to make an instructional/demo video on "how to plant a tree ". this seemed like a good time for the film to be made. so, without knowing what to expect, i ended up at the planting site with a camera. the volunteers, strutted in with their foldable ... Mar 06, 2018, 11 smiles Can we get little boys to #GiveUpTheGun by giving up their toy guns to send a powerful message of peaceful resistance to the prevalent "gun culture" (quite like the swadeshi movement where Indians gave up foreign cloth and burned them in heaps, in public) ? Pardon the pun, but the idea and the ask is to “trigger” a chain reaction of small acts where children and parents across schools and neighbourhoods gave up their toy guns. And make it public. The ask? Images like these to be shared across networks and communities from different parts of the world, with children and parents giving up toys guns for a peaceful future, free from guns. Could be images og guns in trash cans. Guns reused as shovels, cloth hangers, swings, flower vases...you get the drift. We can get as creative as we want to. Every image with the abandoned guns, could have a child holding a ... Read Full Story
Feb 20, 2018, 4 comments, 27 smiles Recently, I asked my son, Siddhartha, to miss school so he could learn how to make a lake. :) We headed to the farm in our village. We had to walk a lot to the fields and back. On one such walk, Siddhartha saw a farm worker, about to carry three pipes all alone. He asked me to ask the labourer, if he needed any help. I told Siddhartha to check himself. So he quietly walked up to the man, lifted one end of the pipes, placed it on his head and walked all the way to where it was to be unloaded. (A little less than a kilometers maybe) Every morning we have tender coconuts delivered home, which he opens and serves. This morning, he did this:)
May 10, 2015, 2 comments, 9 smiles Here's a Mother's Day commercial I helped create for amazon, that I'm very happy about. Somehow the world's biggest e-tailer approved a commercial that says you don't need to buy. :)
Aug 18, 2014, 1 comments, 18 smiles Goenka-ji was once asked, "Sometimes I feel like leaving my normal life and just staying at the meditation center. What should I do?" His response (slightly edited below) reminded me of Awakin Circles around the world. :) I would like you to live your normal life. I want to make the whole world into a meditation center, and you want to leave the world and come to the center? What does a center mean? A place where you get some care, love, food for thought and some food for your stomach. You can make your own home into such a meditation center -- invite people, share some insight, meditate together, offer some food. If you do this a lot, then that home becomes a center. I want people in the meditation centers to go out and start centers wherever they are, make their homes as lighthouse of joy, knowledge and love.
