The Dance Of Handmade Hope

Apr 10, 2015, 1 comments, 9 smiles Almost eight years back, I met Jagatbhai at Manav Sadhna for the first time at Gandhi Ashram. I loved the beautiful work happening at Gandhi Ashram. colors, textures, designs, children, energy of the space was simply amazing! I learnt a few things from him. He taught me how to make a paper bag and a paper cap and gifted that to me.  I was in my first year of graduation back then. In a few years circumstances and opportunities lead me to start Handmade Hope - a community platform for creating employment for economically underprivileged individuals. I always feel grateful to Rahul because of him Handmade Hope was born.  After the continuous offline community building and sustainable employment model using "paper bags" as a tool we were going very steady till the monsoons of  2014 brought heavy floods which lead to complete wash off and we had to start from scratch.  The time ... First Times.

Mar 27, 2015, 13 smiles So finally Vipassana happened for the first time. I am grateful to this space and specially to Jignasha for making the magic happen. It was necessary to start with this because I haven't written anything after that. So much of over whelming gratitude is what I have been feeling that the "need" of "doing" anything just for the sake of it has disappeared. I feel like I am in space where I am trying to filter out the stuff which I used to do for satisfying my own ego or to show it off from what I really feel like doing and what I believe in.  Today, just a few hours something beautiful happened.  My sister, Isha cleared her exams which is going to be a major breakthrough in her life. After dinner, we were sitting and she wanted to celebrate with an ice cream or a cake. Mom and dad are out ... Read Full Story

Super Day At Handmade Hope

Jun 18, 2014 Yesterday morning three new interns from Mexico came to our workshop. Babita ben wasn't around and there was no one else from the volunteers available who could talk and teach them how to make the paper bags. I asked Hans if he would like to teach them how to make the bags.  Even though he had never taught anyone before, somewhere I was sure the precision with which he would do it, no one else can. He proved me right. Firstly, he dint pick up brown papers and took newspapers instead because that's what we start with when someone has to be taught how to make bags. He taught step by step perfectly how to make the bags and the best part was towards the end when they made their bags, he brought the label of "handmade hope" and stuck it on the bottom of the bags as we always do it ... When We Were Decorating The Outside ...

Mar 25, 2014, 10 smiles When we were decorating the outside space where we were hosting Karma Kitchen, the watchman walked to us and told us he has never seen someone beautifying the corporate space before. He said, he believed such things happen only when there is a wedding in the family or in the temples. First time it felt like a temple and a family coming together and he dint feel like a security guard and more like a person taking care of his family! I was like "Wow! This is just the start!"

Asking Strangers For Lifts Or Helping ...

Sep 05, 2013, 1 comments, 2 smiles Asking strangers for lifts or helping has always been a little hard for me. Gave one more try today! He didn't agree to hop in, but huge smiles and was still smiling when I saw in the rear view mirror!

It Feels Great To Be Back ...

Aug 08, 2013, 9 smiles It feels great to be back on the grassroots and working with children. Thank you Swara and Anardidi for the push. "nail cutting" has been my personal favorite since the time I had seen Jayeshbhai doing it. Best way of giving the message of hygiene and also bond a relationship on individual level with children.
