About Me

I'm joining Service Space because ... I'm hoping to be a little less self-absorbed

A good day to me is when ... I have let go of something that's creating harshness, and been able to love more fully

My hero in life is ...everyday folks who are doing their best

My favorite book is ...

One thing I'm grateful for is ... being alive

Awakin Kids Village

Mar 10, 2019, 11 comments, 19 smiles Yesterday, we took our 2 month old newly born Savithra (and our newly-born parent selves) to our very first kids' and parents' awakin circle. After having been cooped up in our home to bond as a new family unit, the prospect of our first social outing was both exciting and daunting. Exciting to be in the space at Aunty and Uncle's home and in circle with other parents and children planting seeds of community and stillness. And daunting because of all our doubts and new-parent anxieties -- How would our baby handle being in a new environment with lots of people? Isn't it supposed to be her sleep or feed time, and are we messing with her schedule by providing, possibly, too much social stimulation by taking her out... just because we want it? Are we exposing baby to other big kiddo germs? What if baby starts crying uncontrollably -- ... Read Full Story

Flowing Like Water

Apr 07, 2017, 1 comments, 15 smiles [At this past Wednesday's Awakin Circle in Santa Clara, I was reminded of this recent experience with a neighbor.] I love water it's my favorite thing ever, so I was very excited about this "Way of the Water" passage. I feel like it's the element I identify with the most. All my life I've been told to be more rock-like. "Stand like a warrior. Assert yourself. Go get what you want." And it's been really hard because it's not who I naturally am. So this passage was very validating. It reminded me of when we moved here from India, we moved to a beach town in Southern California, and I used to go to the ocean a lot. I remember being fascinated that the ocean made the sand, over time, little by little, with persistence and with really no agenda. I was blown away by that. And then, today, I had a really ... Reflections From Miles Of Smiles, Silicon Valley

Nov 13, 2016, 1 comments, 10 smiles Last month, about a dozen of us took to the streets of Silicon Valley on a warm, sunny Sunday -- simply to spread smiles to unsuspecting drivers and pedestrians. :) As we'd initially recapped... From the symphony of car honks and thumbs-ups from smiling drivers, to pedestrian passersby who picked up the signs and joined in enthusiastically, Shiv's full-blast smile dance on the median and encouraging tips before-hand on how to get over feeling shy, Spoorthy spreading smiles inside the mall, :) conversations across lanes with drivers saying, "People don't do this anymore!", Prahallad literally "spreading" the smile with his fingerprints :), while two cops in police cars encouraged him on, Audrey exuberantly cheering people on to "have a beautiful day!" and "you have a great smile!," as she channeled Bermuda's Mr. Happy Man, Bradley gifting French toast to the homeless before he came(!) to spread smiles and smilingly reminding us all with ... An Awakin Circle Of Love

Oct 29, 2015, 2 comments, 22 smiles Yesterday’s Awakin circle in Santa Clara was extra special. That says a lot about yesterday, given that every Wednesday circle is nothing short of a miracle for me that leaves me transformed, inspired, touched. Yesterday evening the room was pulsing with love -- and collective love is SO powerful. As the mic got passed around, so many people shared “I love you all” to a room full of mostly strangers, and so many others took Nipun’s invitation to share authentically from a space of heart, receiving and offering love in other ways -- from taking a deep breath, to expressing gratitude, to expressing that we felt like each other’s families, to sharing wisdom and kindness stories. There was a moment towards the end of the circle, when I looked around the room, and it felt like we were all one gigantic body morphed collectively that was breathing in and out together, ... Can Kindness Movement Make A Difference?

Oct 17, 2013, 8 smiles Great story on BBC today: can kindness movements make a difference?  And it sounds like they haven't yet heard of KindSpring. :)  Also interesting to see the top-10 kindest countries on the World Giving index.
