Write Up Of Super Soul Saturday II Posted by Krishan Patel, May 16 2012 (Story compiled by Smita Jain, posting on her behalf) 29 beautiful people (and a dog), mouth-watering food, thought-provoking discussions/reflections, serving and being served on a crisp Saturday at Ashish and Manal’s beautiful home in NJ -- what an amazing way to spend a Saturday!   Sarika, Shaloo and I took the train from NYC to Princeton, where we were graciously picked up by Krishan in his chariot (aka his Camry)! We didn’t know what hit us next J From the shower of endless hugs as we walked in to Ashish+Manal’s home, to the steaming coffee and scrumptious vada paus served by our gracious host Manal – we were totally pumped for the day ahead!   We began the day with an hour of meditation, followed by a reading of “From Me to We: T

As I Was Leaving The SSS ... Posted by Chris Johnnidis, Mar 11 2013 As I was leaving the SSS (Super Soul Saturday) retreat at Ashish and Manal's place in New Jersey this past weekend, their youngest daughter (5) Kiki spontaneously gave me a couple flowers. I put one behind her ear (because, why not :)) and told her I'd keep the other one with me as I traveled back home. I kept it in my shirt pocket (which itself was also a spontaneous gift from the weekend! my goodness) and wondered if I'd have the opportunity to gift it forward on my sunset walk home from the train station. Couple blocks from home I was suddenly jumped from behind. It was a friend who lived in the neighborhood. :) We chatted for a bit, and then I felt moved to give her the flower, with the backstory. That night, I got a lovely picture in my inbox. Which I then asked Ashish and Manal to

Super Soul Saturday Posted by Ashish Mehta, Feb 07 2012 I had a small epiphany this past weekend: “What’s the point of paying my mortgage if I can’t use the home to serve others such as hosting events that support the spiritual journey of my family, my noble friends and me?” My loving wife Manal, beautiful children Anha and Kehna, my father and I had the wonderful opportunity to host an event at our home this past weekend for a group of us to spend some time sitting in silence, finding stillness within and creating an atmosphere of loving kindness. Perhaps my father captured it best when he asked us all "What is destiny and what is will power?" and then later went on to answer his own questions: Will power is the ability to get out of your own way to allow destiny to occur. As this space of love was co-cre

Super Soul Saturday DC: The Currency Of Love Posted by Krishna Desar, Mar 09 2012 Linda Commito, in Love is the New Currency: Creating a New Measure of Wealth, writes that we are not alone.  “We're united in a way that has nothing to do with the blood that runs through our veins, but rather the life energy that is within each of us… Why does it take a crisis or a natural disaster to remind us of the oneness of which we are all a part? ...We create a currency of love when we consciously cultivate that feeling of belonging every day.”   On Saturday, March 3, about 25 of us from the greater Washington, DC area, as well as New York City and Boston reminded each other of our interconnectedness, our oneness.  By co-creating a vulnerable space where we were able to listen to and express our hearts, verses of poetry da

Super Soul Saturday III Posted by Krishan Patel, Aug 05 2012 (Community-sourced with love from Ashish, Bela, Audrey, Ann Marie, Arathi, Birju, Amit, Krishan and all of you :) See more pictures here!) Super Soul Saturday was indeed a super soul enriching day! We gathered from New York City, Boston, Washington D.C., Pittsburgh and India to come together as a community and support each others journey. The day was balanced with sharing and reflection, meditation and mindfulness. From the sits, to the discussions, to the delicious mindful lunch, to the mindful walk, the heart opening writing session, the inspiring ambiance and everyone who gave their presence, the conditions were set for grace to flow. The day did not begin with voices, but with each of us observing our surroundings. Each individual was draped with construction paper necklaces

Fall In East Coast - Super Soul Saturday Posted by Birju Pandya, Nov 10 2012 As is our quarterly habit here on the east coast, we recently came together (for the 6th time) to spend a day in cultivation of inner silence. Below are the highlights from the various sessions as well as a many pictures here :) These gatherings are truly a collective effort, and true to that ethos, this write-up is collectively created (my role being the 'uploader')! Morning Session After the first hour of silence, this retreat started off in a slightly unique note. We haven't had a new comer celebrate their birthday by spending the entire day at the retreat. So when Surabela announced that it was her birthday, the morning circle broke into a spontaneous 'happy birthday to you...' song. It was evident that Surabela's joyous self had shown up and in a zen-l

Traveling On 287 Posted by Janis Daddona, Mar 13 2013     Last week I attended the Super Soul Saturday retreat in Princeton, NJ.  The east coast contingent of Service Space met for a day of mindfulness, meditation, and rich conversations.  It was so perfect!  We were all swimming in an ocean of love and support, so it was effortless and comforting to share stories with each other about life's challenges and rewards.  The theme was service in everyday life.  How do we show up for it?  Surrender to it?  What happens when our fears conflict with the desire to trust that what we are doing is right and necessary though conventional wisdom would tell us otherwise?  The day was full of such stories, and with it the laughter, hugs, and knowing glances that assure us that we are in this tog

Super Soul VII: Wisdom In Everyday Service Posted by Bela Shah, Mar 14 2013 As I sit down to write about the seventh Super Soul Saturday that magically unfolded on March 9, there is this wonderful feeling of inner expansiveness. As Birju quietly put forth in the closing circle, it is upon us to write a new story, the kind of story that inevitably reveals itself through the force of our interconnected love and the realization of truth. There is not one activity or person that individually created this space of love and truth in the home of Ashish and Manal and that’s what makes it so powerful. “Seed our Roots/Intentions and Branch out to our Community”, the Tree of Intentions read on the wall overlooking the circle of thirty or so that had gathered on that day. Some knew what they were seeking and others were drawn by curiosity, but regardles
