Barack Obama's Volunteer Plan

1 min read
Boston Globe reports on Barack's plan for inspiring volunteerism:
Barack Obama has proposed to ease the strain with a $4,000 tax credit for students willing to volunteer 100 hours a year. He would buttress the familiar presidential call to action with two key catalysts of service other initiatives have lacked: a financial incentive and an infrastructure to support volunteerism.
In addition, Obama's $3.5 billion plan includes a Craigslist style clearinghouse to match volunteers with opportunities.  Let's hope it comes to pass. :)

There are many college-age volunteers who are also trying to put themselves through school. The tax credit is a great idea. Educational opportunities for this age group are essential in building infrastructure and bridging the gap in our communities.

Great idea but know that the poorest public school in my district already has a volunteer coordinator and it is possible to volunteer for as little as 45 minutes (one class) a week. Just call your local school . They need you.
