"The present moment is filled with joy and happiness. If you are attentive, you will see it" - Thich Nhat Hanh
Does Busy = Happy? Here's The Trick To "Slow Parenting"
“Slow - in this context does not mean doing everything at a snail’s pace. It means doing everything at the right speed – fast or slow or whatever pace works best. Slow Parenting is about quality over quantity; real and meaningful human connections; being present and in the moment.
Slow Parenting is about bringing balance into the home. Children need to strive and struggle and stretch themselves but that does not mean childhood should be a race. Slow parents give their children plenty of time and space to explore the world on their own terms, to play without adults getting in the way, to get bored even. After all, that is how kids learn to think, create, socialise and take pleasure from things; it’s how they work out who they are rather than what we want them to be." [read more]

By: Kim John Payne, Lisa M. Ross
Ages: Adults
Today’s busier, faster society is waging an undeclared war on childhood. With too much stuff, too many choices, and too little time, children can become anxious, have trouble with friends and school, or even be diagnosed with behavioral problems. Now internationally renowned family consultant Kim John Payne helps parents reclaim for their children the space and freedom that all kids need for their attention to deepen and their individuality to flourish. Simplicity Parenting offers inspiration, ideas, and a blueprint for change:
• Streamline your home environment. Reduce the amount of toys, books, and clutter—as well as the lights, sounds, and general sensory overload.
• Establish rhythms and rituals. Discover ways to ease daily tensions, create battle-free mealtimes and bedtimes, and tell if your child is overwhelmed.
• Schedule a break in the schedule. Establish intervals of calm and connection in your child’s daily torrent of constant doing.
• Scale back on media and parental involvement. Manage your children’s “screen time” to limit the endless deluge of information and stimulation.
A manifesto for protecting the grace of childhood, Simplicity Parenting is an eloquent guide to bringing new rhythms to bear on the lifelong art of raising children. - Publishers

Be the Change
Most of the times, in our daily hustle bustle, we forget to see what's in front of us. And it's natural considering we do so much multi-tasking daily. One idea could be to start slow, by doing something simple with your child for 30 mins, each day if possible, where you are with them completely and wholely. 30 mins could then become an hour, two hours and so on as this practice becomes a way of living!
