Amy Krouse Rosenthal loves to make lovely things that inspire kindness. In fact, she loves to make lovely things so much, that she was inspired to invite the universe (via YouTube) to make something lovely with her on 8-08-08 at 8:08 pm in the Millennium Park in Chicago. Amy would be carrying a yellow umbrella and had no expectations of who would show up. Turns out hundreds of others wanted to make something lovely with her too☺.

That evening strangers became friends, flowers were shared as random acts of kindness, and songs were sung in celebration of oneness. Over the next few years, magical gatherings continued on 9:09:09, 10:10:10, 11:11:11, and finally, on 12:12:12, the last month before the world would supposedly end. What was Amy’s solution to stop the world from ending? To beckon the lovely.

“I tend to believe that whatever you decide to look for, you will find. Whatever you beckon, will eventually beckon you.”

In essence, if each of us beckoned into our lives whatever made us come alive, how would that energy awaken the world to a new consciousness?

This is Amy’s credo, the central place from which she operates and creates. And a creator she is, whether it’s children’s books or short films or her own memoir, “Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life”.

Her children’s books are as colorful and quirky as Amy. For example, one tells the story of an “exclamation point” that tries to unsuccessfully fit in with all the “periods” until realizing the beauty of being unique. Another describes the dilemma of little “spoon”, who didn’t recognize his own value because he spent his life comparing himself to the versatility of “fork” and “knife” and the exotic nature of “chopsticks”.

What struck us about Amy is that what makes her come alive is the energy she receives (and creates) from being kind and inspiring others to be kind. It’s that simple, and she does it with so much joy and enthusiasm! You can experience this for yourself when you view one her most popular short videos, called “The Kindness Thought Bubble”.

When you meet such a prolific and creative individual, it’s normal to wonder, “Where does she get all of her inspiration from?”

Always Trust Magic: ATM. Pay attention to those magnificent moments where purpose and random happenstance seem to intersect,” says Amy.

When you always trust magic, it’s no longer about what you can do to make the world better. Your presence alone, awakened through magical moments, enhances the beauty that already exists.
