Teens Meditating

1 min read
Last weekend I had the great privilege and honour of being in the presence of teenagers on a one-day meditation course. On a sunny day when they could have been hanging out with their friends, playing sports, or going to the beach, 20 young girls and boys between the ages of 12 to 17 chose to spend a full day learning the art of stillness. Their reasons? "To find inner peace", "To improve my focus", "To find happiness", and other noble intentions. :) It was so inspiring to see a new generation of meditators work diligently as well as connect with each other in ways that only teenagers do...over school, boys, and Facebook! ;) Interacting with these young people and fellow adults that weekend changed me in small ways inside too, particularly with respect to "noble speech" and applying theme of restraint and freedom in the practice of meditation, to other aspects of my life. I felt giggly and grateful after saying a heartfelt "see you later!" to these remarkable young individuals and their families and left with a permanent infection of teenage energy! :)

thank you for sharing this! if you have more reflective writing on the experience, or the teens have something they'd like to share, perhaps the cubs editors could use it for our newsletter. i'd be curious to know how this weekend impacted them, how they are keeping the experience alive, what books or movies or things inspired them to engage in a day-long course. wonderful to hear of teens engaging in this. thanks again for your post.

That is the most wonderful positive tool kids get with the help of which they can practice self control & remain emotionally stable.
