May 01, 2017, 2 comments, 7 smiles [Below are some comments I had shared at the Healing+T circle last week.] What inspired me to become a physician was watching my twin cousins suffer through Duchenne's muscular dystrophy, which is a very severe, debilitating and mostly seen in boys. They grew up with that. As a child, I just saw how their mother would care for her two children, and it really propelled me to go out and really help people who needed it. In my third year of med school, my uncle contracted glioblastoma, very severe brain tumor. As I entered my clinical years, I was very enthusiastic that I would be able to cure his condition. But unfortunately, it was a very aggressive tumor and before I knew what was happening, I lost him. Post med school, my journey brought me to the United States. I struggled to get into residency for some time, and then had to put ... Read Full Story
Jun 16, 2015, 6 smiles I had an opportunity to hike in silence at Wahclella falls , Portland , Oregon last weekend .It was an amazing experience as I was able togo deeper and connect to nature in a very different way. Every day we would start the hike with a small meditation and prayer hike the whole day, take a small break for lunch and hike again ending the day with meditation.,. As I was walking over " Bridge of Gods" over the columbia river, there was lot of fear rising as you can see the river directly below you through the gaps. I have fear of heights but I kept on walking in silence. There was a process in which we had to put over burdens in a rock and throw it in the river. It was a powerful process as I put my " fear" & "ego" into the rocks and through it ... Read Full Story

She was declared brain dead, taken off life support, and her family started making funeral arrangements. But then the "Hand of God" intervened. On September 11, 2011, Taylor was messing around with friends and fell off the hood of a car, hitting her head. She had suffered a severe brain injury and was placed in a medically induced coma, in hopes her brain would heal. A week into her hospital stay, an unresponsive Taylor had a brain hemorrhage. Her already poor prognosis got even more dismal. Despite attempts to save her life, a part of Taylor's brain dipped into her spinal canal, basically ending the road for the ... Read Full Story
May 14, 2015, 2 smiles Just wanted to share my experience of” joy in giving” which happened on the last day of 21 day challenge. I live very close to Safeway and usually walk with Mahika, (my 18 month old) for groceries. I enjoy the walk as there are so many beautiful trees and flowers on the way and it gives me a chance to practice the "being mode". This particular day as I was approaching the Safeway, I saw a young couple sitting with a baby in the entrance and the man holding a poster that said " No job for 2 months, we have a child, please help us". My heart broke seeing the mom sitting there and breast feeding the baby. I came to know that they haven’t eaten since morning, I did not have any cash with me, without asking any further questions, I went into the Starbucks close by and ... Read Full Story
Jan 20, 2015, 4 comments, 3 smiles Just wanted to share this little article which helps to stay in the now.. http://tinybuddha.com/blog/6-tips-stay-now-busy-times/ 6 Tips to Stay in the Now During Busy Times By Karla McEvoy Businessman Meditating “If we are not fully ourselves, truly in the present moment, we miss everything.” ~Thich Nhat Hanh Have you ever had one of those days where you catch yourself rushing and not paying attention to the present moment? I had one of those days a few years ago. I had just ordered some coffee at a drive-thru and was waiting for the clerk to open the window. While I waited, I began plotting my plan of attack for running several personal errands. My to-do list was long, and I knew I was going to need to be efficient if I wanted to get everything done in the amount of time I had available. The clerk opened the window and I paid for my coffee. Then I drove off. A moment later, ... Read Full Story
