A T-Shirt That Became My Teacher

So many of us were very moved by that talk, and some volunteers offer this lightly edited transcription, to share the inspiration forward.] Many years ago, I was on a meditation retreat and we had a great manager who was serving the retreat. He just had a sweet smile the whole 10 days that I was there. During the retreat I had shared that I really liked his shirt. He had this shirt which read: "Be Happy." Later, I learned that this young man traveled from retreat center to retreat center, sometimes meditating and sometimes serving. "What happens when you need some food or money," I asked him. Mumbai Local Trains Have A Reputation ...

Apr 02, 2013, 3 comments, 12 smiles Mumbai local trains have a reputation for being one of the harshest environments you can find. Ofcourse, I was incredibly surprised to find the gentleman in the photo going from passenger to passenger, offering free, chilled drinking water. As he approached me, he saw the sweat on my face and offered me some to drink. On inquiring, I found out that he's 70 years old and has been doing this for ages! I had to sneak to the side and take his picture without him knowing - since he wouldn't allow me to capture him. "It's not me who's doing all this", he says, "I'm just the instrument." :)
