This drawing pretty much covers how I feel about the whole SS community... but it is specifically inspired by Audrey. Last week we were hanging out at a cafe, and the girl behind the counter could not have looked more unhappy. "Hi there," said audrey...no response..."Having a long day?" Audrey asked. "Yup," said the girl, without looking up. "Would you like a tangerine?" Audrey asked. "Nope," said the girl.  At this point, I was thinking, "She just wants to be angry, maybe we should leave her alone." But Audrey wouldn't give up. "I've had days like that too," she said. "I know how you feel." And finally, the girl looked up from what she was doing and sighed. "I just didn't get my break. I'm exhausted." I offered to take a long time ordering so she could rest before the people behind us came up. Audrey asked if there was anything else we could do. Finally, she smiled, as if she was trying her best to hide it. "No," she said "but thank you. it's just a long day, but it's ok." I was really moved by Audrey's persistence in the face of resistance; just shining her warmth until the ice began to melt, and the girl's heart was clearly touched.
