May 2019 - London Gatherings

Last Sunday, 30 parents and children gathered to explore how we can be more empathetic towards each other at home, at school and everywhere we go. The highlight of the afternoon was developing our own empathy skits with a twist -- in order to truly experience walking in someone else's shoes, the kids acted as the parents and the parents acted as the kids! Stay tuned for more stories and photos from this gathering next time and even a few videos of the amazingly empathetic skit performances! :)

We look forward to seeing you at Awakin Circles this month and wanted to share with you about an upcoming service opportunity for the entire community to get involved with, alongside Nimo's 17 children from India who are coming to London in June!

Awakin Circles: Harrow, Pimlico, Mill Hill, Shoreditch

Each month, you're invited to join Awakin Circles at locations around London, where we meditate for the first hour, engage in a circle of sharing based on a reading, and conclude with a home-cooked vegetarian dinner together.

  • Weds, May 8th at 7:00pm (Harrow, Northwest London)
  • Weds, May 15th at 7:00pm (Pimlico, Central London)
  • Weds, May 22nd at 7:00pm (Mill Hill, North London)
  • Friday, May 31st at 7:15pm (Shoreditch, Central London)

To RSVP, visit Awakin London and use the drop-down box in the top right corner to select a date/location.

"One Earth Family" Service Day: Saturday, June 15th (Edgware)

Our dear friends at Shishukunj warmly invite the London community to come together for a hands-on day of service with Nimo and the entire Jai Jagat group of children and mentors, who are visiting London from India to share their dance drama production (see below). The volunteering event will take place on Saturday, June 15th from 10am-1:30pm in Edgware (map link). In the spirit of bringing the values of Jai Jagat to life, we will prepare rucksacks filled with useful items and lots of love for children from disadvantaged communities around the world, which will be delivered by Mary's Meals. Both children and grown-ups are most welcome to join in! Visit this event page for more info and to RSVP (remember one RSVP per adult, use the Family RSVP Link to sign-up kids without email addresses). Questions? Email: sip@shishukunj.co.uk.

Jai Jagat Tour in London: Sunday, June 16th (UCL)

On Sunday, June 16th, you're invited to attend Jai Jagat ("One Earth Family"), an inspiring and moving dance/drama show performed in English by 17 beautiful children from the slums of Ahmedabad, India, sharing a message of love and hope for our planet. Directed by our dear friend Nimo, the heart behind Empty Hands Music, this labour of love show has been produced for Mahatma Gandhi's 150th anniversary and honours the values he cultivated through real life stories of inspiring people from around the world. Watch the official trailer, learn about the children and this epic journey and RSVP to attend the show at UCL on June 16th at 5pm (children are welcome!). Questions? Email: jaijagatuk@gmail.com

One of our fellow Awakin Circle hosts in Shoreditch, Vicky, is currently traveling in Nepal and India. Last weekend, she was invited to give a talk at the Global Youth Parliament Leadership Summit in Kathmandu and we just got news hot off the press that Vicky received a Global Youth Leadership Award for her "tremendous contribution for serving as an inspiration for the young generation in the area of Peace"! We feel deeply grateful to have Vicky's energy and inspiration as part of our community here in London and it's beautiful to see the gratitude flowing from around the world too -- congrats Vicky and the Museum of Happiness team!

We look forward to seeing you all at an upcoming circle this month.

With love and gratitude,

Trishna, Ani, Mita, Vicky, Shamash and Ewa :)
