“KINDNESS IS NOT AN ACT, IT’S A LIFESTYLE! “ _ Anthony Douglas

Since the day I heard this quote, I had always wished to make it happen to me and the people around me. Few days back, one of my friends called me expressing that she wanted a platform on the basis of which we could have a positive gathering. On discussing, the idea of 21 days of kindness challenge came up. We called up a few friends and we were 12 of us on the same path. But it seems that kindness in thought itself is contagious,..... the number reached to 27.

With lots of excitement and inquisitiveness, we met. We started our circle with 2 minutes of silence and a prayer “madhuban khushboo deta hai…” Each of us shared our names and our broader views on kindness. We watched a few videos to dive into the concept better. Few of us shared the kindness acts done and witnessed lately. We closed the circle with Nimo’s rocking song “being kind…”

As a host, I wished to send my guests with kindness in their hearts, so made small gifts for them. {painted pebbles in pic} All of them were so pumped up that they wanted to start the challenge at that moment itself. So I declared the Day 1 Act and we parted with lots of love, smiles, excitement, confusions and curiosity.

We were connected with a watsapp group and shared our daily reflections. As a surprise treat for someone, Jyoti made halwa for the little girls on the road side and felt connected. Aradhna shared muffins and fruits with a blind old man. Roshni was feeling very positive after giving a choco bar to the cleaner of a shopping complex. Nika gave bananas, Shweta snacks, Rinki biscuits, Disha halwa to the needy people. Renu served her watchman with evening tea. Sneha and karishma baked cakes and touched many hearts. All these activities ignited each one of us to feel more of the ‘nice’ feeling experienced on the very first day itself.

As the challenge grew, new experiences bloomed and more blockages removed. Disha talked to her friend in Kashmir after long and patiently listened to her problems.kavita was able to feel the sentiments of 3 friends by calling them. Priya was overjoyed to recall her school time after long lost connection with school friends. Chhaya called her friend after 30 years and made a promise to meet frequently.

Sangeeta healed her relations with her bhabhi after gifting her favourite dish cooked with love. Puja asked apology for to a family member and initiated a harmonious relationship. Anuradha donated few story books to children and brought smiles on their faces. Pinal gifted a book to her friend who was looking for it and felt grateful. Rachana celebrated her anniversary with the house helpers and built bonds. Shweta and payal totally enjoyed decorating her neighbourhood and bringing smiles on many faces.

Niyanta could bring awareness of not complaining about her ill health. Kavita gifted flowers to the bus staff of her daughter’s school to express ‘thank you’ for bringing her home safely. Karishma and Sneha delighted many policemen with ‘sing chana’ and a warm ‘thank you’.

As shared after 1 week in the reflection circle, all these small acts brought kindness back into our lives, added with value.
