Doing An Audrey ...

A few years back when I first joined ServiceSpace, there were often posts from members who quoted they had "done an Audrey". From the context of the post I understood this referred to random acts of kindness. I am so deeply grateful to have had an opportunity to carry out many "Audrey's" with Audrey last week in London and ripple out laughter and love.

Audrey's joyful spirit, bubbling with laughter and kindness was truly infectious. One of the days, we had set out for a kindness flash mob we'd planned to have in front of the Nelson Mandela statue at the bustling Southbank Centre on the Riverfront.

It all started on the Jubilee line escalators going down at London Bridge underground station, where noticing the tired faces of commuters Audrey holds up the poster saying "Smile! You're Perfect" for people on the escalators opposite going up. One could almost feel the energy radiate as people's eyes lit up and their faces relax into smiles...

And it ended late evening on the train going home with writing notes and leaving them with quote cards and handmade wisdom scrolls for commuters on the train.... And in-between were moments of endless smiles and melted hearts....

I haven't participated in many of these types of flash mobs, yet each time I have, little by little, I understand how a simple kind message or gesture -- expressed physically with a cheerful smile or a warm hug or verbally through brightly painted words-- can connect, uplift and fill the hearts of strangers. Moreover, I understand how my inner feelings and energy are what is reflected and mirrored back. How letting go of subtle inner resistances, such as self consciousness, inevitably uplifts and transforms my own experience and those of others.

So grateful to Audrey, for bringing her bubbliness, beautiful and wholehearted kind presence to London, planting seeds of goodness and opening hearts.
