|WHAT:||"Ubuntu speaks of the very essence of being human.... you are generous, you are hospitable, you are friendly and caring and compassionate. You share what you have. It is to say, 'My humanity is inextricably bound up in yours.' We belong in a bundle of life."-- Desmond Tutu
You're invited to go within at our upcoming Awakin London One-Day Retreat! Last year, our one-day retreat on the theme of "Reconnection" planted many beautiful seeds in the hearts of those who attended and we look forward to co-creating goodness together on March 18th where we will collectively explore the theme "From Me to We"!
The retreat will take place in Harrow (Northwest London) on Sunday, March 18th from 9:30am-6:00pm. Retreats offer a unique opportunity to step away from our daily routines and offer ourselves some time to reflect, cultivate and serve in the company of noble friends who share our commitment to being the change we wish to see. Our day together will feature some space for silence, inspiring talks, interactive breakouts, reflective exercises and ample activities to reconnect more deeply with ourselves and each other. The entire retreat is offered as a gift by its volunteers, in alignment with ServiceSpace values.
From Me to We: Cultivating Ubuntu...
Over the course of the day, around 30 of us plan to explore the theme "From Me to We" as it relates to our individual and collective journeys through life. In a world where it's easy to get consumed by the busyness of our own, individual lives, how can we dig deep to shift our lens from individual to community, to see ourselves in each person we engage with and in humanity at large. How can we to tune into our interconnectedness in a way that enables us to serve others as we would our own families?
In Africa, Ubuntu is one such practice -- Ubuntu means "I am who I am because of who we all are." It is a philosophy in which compassion, kindness and humanity connects us together by sharing ourselves with others and caring for those around us - you can hear Nelson Mandela share in his own words one beautiful story of Ubuntu. Ubuntu is alive in each of our hearts and it is wonderful to have opportunities like this retreat, monthly Awakin Circles and many similar gatherings to cultivate this way of honouring our interconnectedness and serving each other and the community.
