Awakin Dialogue: Envisioning An Ideal Society

WHEN: September 19, 2017, 06:00 AM IST
WHAT: Every week, few of us come together for a 90 minute virtual call to have a dialogue around a particular value and reading. To join, simply RSVP below and you'll be sent all the dial-in information.

This week's Awakin Dialogue is based on 'A Dream' by the Mother (Mira Alfass) on Envisioning an Ideal Society in 1954. And on February 28, 1968, Auroville was born to become a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities. With an alternative formula for a new way to live and to be, the purpose of Auroville is to realise human unity.

Seed questions for reflection:
  • What would be your vision of an ideal place to live on earth and can you share some of your personal practices to manifest such a world?
  • In your everyday life, how do you discern between “need of the spirit” and “satisfaction of desires and passions”?
  • Can you share an experience where you were able to transform a relationship that was initially based on competition to one based on collaboration and love?

Here's the broad flow for the call:
5:00 - 6 AM: Sitting in solitude (Optional but highly recommended)
6:00 - 6:02: Collective Silence
6:02 - 6:10: Quick check-in
6:10 - 6:15: Reading of the article
6:15 - 7:15: Reflections on article in a dialogue format
7:15 - 7:28: Closing remarks by everyone
7:28 - 7:30: Collective Silence

As context, here's a quote from David Bohm that describes our approach to this call:
"Awakening the process of dialogue itself as a free flow of meaning among all the participants. In the beginning, people were expressing fixed positions, which they were tending to defend, but later it became clear that to maintain the feeling of friendship in the group was much more important than to hold any position. Such friendship has an impersonal quality in the sense that its establishment does not depend on a close personal relationship between participants. A new kind of mind thus begins to come into being which is based on the development of a common meaning that is constantly transforming in the process of the dialogue. People are no longer primarily in opposition, nor can they be said to be interacting, rather they are participating in this pool of common meaning which is capable of constant development and change. In this development the group has no pre-established purpose, though at each moment a purpose that is free to change may reveal itself. The group thus begins to engage in a new dynamic relationship in which no speaker is excluded, and in which no particular content is excluded. Thus far we have only begun to explore the possibilities of dialogue in the sense indicated here, but going further along these lines would open up the possibility of transforming not only the relationship between people, but even more, the very nature of consciousness in which these relationships arise."
