|WHAT:||Join us Wednesday, October 19th 7:30-9PM PST for a conversation between a first-time author and her writing coach on writing, publishing, and getting out of your own way!
We are delighted to invite you to this special conversation between first-time author, Leigh Marz, and writing coach and author, Andy Couturier, as they share with you their five-year journey together working on Golden: The Power of Silence in a World of Noise—from fledgling idea to book proposal to publication with Harper Collins and in 14 languages globally.
Andy, in his own words, had the honor of being Leigh's writing coach and played a catalytic role in a process that would eventually lead to the publication of a book that is garnering deep praise from diverse corners.
The two will delve into the story of their connection and—instead of a one-way interview format—they will co-interview each other about the choices they each made about the content and characters of the book (for Leigh) and, as a writing coach, (for Andy) the choices he made to guide the author in her creatives process along the way.
You’ll come away with specific practices for writers at any stage—with plenty of time for your questions.
Leigh Marz is co-author of the recently published book, Golden: The Power of Silence in a World of Noise. Through a variety of lenses the book explores why silence is essential for physical health, mental clarity, ecological sustainability, and vibrant community. Leigh is also a leadership coach and collaboration consultant who has led diverse initiatives, including a training program to promote an experimental mindset among teams at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and a decade-long cross-sector collaboration to reduce toxic chemicals, in partnership with the Green Science Policy Institute, Harvard University, IKEA, Google Green Team, and Kaiser Permanente. She is the co-founder of Astrea Strategies. Leigh lives in Berkeley, California, with her husband and daughter.
Andy Couturier is the author of Writing Open the Mind and A Different Kind of Luxury, now going into its fourth printing. He loves teaching writing, and is the founder and creative director of The Opening, a private writing school which offers courses in-person and online. Andy and his partner built a house with hand tools in the mountains. In his personal life, he enjoys doing hand work such as tree-planting, splitting firewood, home scale gardening and food production. He loves to spend mornings reading classical Chinese poetry, or twentieth-century experimental, imagist and nature poetry.
