Svati Chakravarty Bhatkal is a documentary film-maker, lyricist and researcher based in Mumbai. From 2012-15, she worked as co-director and head of field research of Indian TV show Satyamev Jayate (Truth Alone Triumphs), focusing on sensitive social issues like female foeticide, child sexual abuse, etc. The reach and the impact of the show was unprecedented - garnering 100s of millions of views, and led to mass awareness and inspired action from public and government alike.

Around the time Satyamev Jayate ended, Svati was feeling powerless at the spiraling violence in the world and ironically, tremendous anger towards someone who had harmed her loved one. She chanced upon a newspaper story of forgiveness wherein the daughter of the deceased made a choice to forgive the killer of her parents and was struck by disbelief. She decided to retrace the story and discovered not just that it was true, but that there were many more such stories of forgiveness in the world. (Although they mostly get crowded-out in mainstream media). 

This quest to seek the innate good within each one of us - as she realized, even in those who had committed murders - ended up as her next project, a documentary film titled Rubaru Roshni - Where the light comes (watch trailer here) in which released worldwide on January 26, 2019. The documentary recorded 32 million views on release and has continued to reach many more across the globe digitally. These powerful stories have helped spark countless ripples of forgiveness and greater love and evoked conversations around the idea of restorative justice and the need for creating non-judgmental spaces for dialog.

स्वाति चक्रवर्ती भटकल एक फिल्म निर्माता, गीतकार एवं संशोधक है | सन् 2012-15 के दौरान उन्होंने मशहूर भारतीय धारावाहिक ‘सत्यमेव जयते’ में सह-निर्देशक एवं मूल-अनुसंधानकर्ता  की भूमिका निभायी।  संवेदनशील सामाजिक समस्याओं पर केंद्रित यह धारावाहिक करोड़ों भारतीयो द्वारा देखा गया |  "सत्यमेव जयते"  ने इन मुद्दों पर जागरूकता बढ़ाने एवं सुधार में एक अहम् भूमिका निभाई| 

इस धारावहिक के द्वारा स्वाति की औरों की पीड़ा के प्रति संवेदनशीलता बढ़ी और वह खुद को सामाजिक अन्याय के सामने बड़ा असहाय महसूस करने लगी थी. इसी दौरान उन्हें खुद के भीतर बहुत आक्रोश का अनुभव भी हुआ एक इंसान के प्रति जिसने उनके किसी प्रियजन को गहरी चोट पहुचायी थी. उसी वक्त अकस्मात् स्वाति की नज़र अखबार में एक क्षमापना की कहानी पर पड़ी, जिसमे एक बेटी ने अपने मृत पिता के हत्यारे को क्षमा प्रदान की थी | स्वाति इस कहानी से स्तब्ध रह गयी | क्या यह भी सच हो सकता है - यह जानने की जिज्ञासा उनके भीतर जाग उठी| स्वाति ने पाया न केवल कि वह कहानी पूरी तरह से सच थी, बल्कि ऐसी कई अन्य और सत्य घटनाओं से उनका साक्षात्कार हुआ | स्वाति के जीवन ने भी जैसे एक नया मोड़ लिया... और शुरू हुई उनकी ‘रूबरू रौशनी’ फिल्म की यात्रा |

‘रूबरू रौशनी’ उनकी फिल्म ऐसी ही तीन सत्य घटनाओं का आलेखन करती है | इस खोज के दरम्यान उन्होंने पाया कि हर इंसान में - फिर समाज उसे हत्यारा ही क्यों न कहता हो - हर इंसान में एक अंदरूनी अच्छाई होती हैं | साथ ही साथ हर इंसान में - अच्छे से अच्छे इंसान में भी बुराई भी होती से | कई बार संयोगवशात कोई घटना घट जाती है और जिसे समाज " गुनाह " कहता है वह हो जाता है | इसका अर्थ गुनाह या गुनाहगारों को सही ठहराना नहीं है, परन्तु हर एक ऐसी घटना को मानवीयता के दृष्टिकोण से देखने का प्रस्ताव हैं | क्या यह सभी के लिए संभव हैं? और यदि संभव भी है तो क्या समाज के लिए ऐसा करना लाजमी हैं? 'रूबरू रौशनी' फिल्म ऐसे ही प्रश्नों से साक्षात् होने का एक आमंत्रण हैं | 

यह फिल्म 26 जनवरी 2019 में विश्व भर में रिलीज़ हुई और तीन करोड़ से अधिक दर्शको तक पहुंची। इसकी कहानियों के द्वारा न जाने कितने ही क्षमा और प्रेम की तरंगे प्रवाहित हुई एवं इस फिल्म ने restorative justice (सम्यक न्यायस्थापन) की मुहीम को बढ़ावा दिया है |
