|WHEN:||November 10, 2019, 6:30p|
Prahlad Singh Tipanya is an internationally acclaimed folk singer renowned for his inspired and soulful rendition of Kabir, the iconoclastic mystic poet and saint of 15th-century North India. Kabir is famous for both his profound mystical insight and his sharp social commentary. His voice and verse have been an enduring force in inspiring communal harmony and social equality across the centuries.
Prahlad-ji and his companions have been featured in documentaries on Kabir, delighted performance halls around the world, and received the Indian Government's highest honor, the prestigious Padma Shri. He is a featured figure in the book Bodies Of Song: Kabir Oral Traditions and Performative Worlds in North India by Linda Hess.
Yet to call Prahlad-ji a mere musician is to miss his depth. While his words and music touch the very essence of the heart, his presence animates a living connection to the wisdom and clarity of the realized mystical experience of a true saint. Kabir's words and insights arise from a place so deep within him that they live buried within us as well. His verse illuminates a landscape of transcendent inner experience and a practical path to explore it. His rich criticisms are so heavy with love that they spontaneously shifts their targets into surrender to high ideals and simple truths. Prahladji's incredible humility and commentary heighten the resonance of what hits listeners at the core of their being.
