Make America Kind Again
Posted by Mindyjourney on Nov 18, 2020
It was World Kindness Day, Nov. 13th, when I dropped off this letter to the editor at our local paper. I thanked them for staying open during the pandemic.
A VERY conservative weekly publication that reflects the popular area demographic, it took quite a leap of courage for me to write and offer the letter for publication! Today it will be in the paper.
There is a time to be silent and there is a time to have a voice. Thank you, for encouraging me to be my best self 🌎 🕊.
To the editor:
“A house divided against itself, cannot stand.” - Abraham Lincoln
Powerful leaders, various self interest groups and certain news media have planted fabrications about how our freedoms are being challenged, driving a widening wedge of mistrust, so we’d believe we are on opposite sides of some kind of war.
What? When did we begin to think that ALL Democrats or ALL Republicans were plotting the other’s destruction?
Has American really been made great again? What programs have been initiated for the relief and support of everyday citizens? What altruistic endeavors have been created or encouraged? Have we pulled together to get the best medical advice to take positive action during the pandemic?
We are the People. Let’s celebrate that wisdom with our neighbors. They are the ones who are there when we need a flat tire fixed or a ride to the doctor. Masked or unmasked, there is no hiding behind rhetoric or slogans, tweets or slanderous innuendos when everyone respects the dignity and diversity that are the building blocks of our nation.
This is a time when we can shine, when we can address the challenges that CoVid are forcing us to resolve with a sound foundation of science, medical expertise, compassion and common sense. Let us work together, so history will tell the truth of the strength of this great country. Let’s agree to disagree and leave space for the healing power of kindness.
