New School Conversation With Nipun
ServiceSpace

It was a great honor to recently hold a New School conversation with Nipun, as the founder of ServiceSpace but also a friend of many years. What I sought to do in the conversation was to elicit nipun's "spiritual biography." Spiritual biographies are my favorite kind of New School conversations. I have done them with Brother David Steindl-Rast, Orland Bishop, and many others. Other TNS conversations on spirit matters have been with Rachel Naomi Remen, Angeles Arrien, Mary Evelyn Tucker, and other like-minded friends.

For over fifteen years, I've watched Nipun and all of you in ServiceSpace build your community together with great admiration. In one way it is far stronger than CommonWeal,
since it is entirely volunteer. That is the strongest way to build a lasting service community.

On visiting Banyan Grove for the first time yesterday, I was immediately struck by the spirit of deep peace that pervades your center. There is a similar peace at CommonWeal, built from 44 years of healing and service work. You can feel it.

The sense of affinity I have with Nipun and with all of you at ServiceSpace is profound. When you listen to my conversation with Nipun, you can sense the depth of my appreciation for his great soul.

May we all serve together for many years.

Peace, joy, love.
