December 2018 - London Gatherings

This month we celebrate 10 years since the first seeds were planted for a ServiceSpace community in London. Almost exactly to the day, on December 3rd, 2008, we hosted our first Awakin Circle in London and we are so grateful for every step of the journey since then including the beautiful people we've met along the way and the deep sense of community that holds us all together in the spirit of stillness and service. We are especially grateful for the incredibly inspiring and committed anchors behind all the magic, who serve so selflessly in holding space for so many amazing gatherings over the years. This snapshot shares a bit about the journeys of each local anchor in London and how they got involved: A Picture That Holds a Thousand Stories.

We look forward to seeing you at Awakin Circles this month along with the next Awakin Movie Circle in January with internationally renowned filmmaker and photographer, Phil Borges, who will be screening his latest documentary, CRAZYWISE.

Awakin Circles: Pimlico, Harrow, Brighton

Each month, you're invited to join Awakin Circles at locations around London, where we meditate for the first hour, engage in a circle of sharing based on a reading, and conclude with a home-cooked vegetarian dinner together.

  • Mon, Dec 10th at 7pm (Pimlico, Central London)
  • Weds, Dec 19th at 7pm (Harrow, Northwest London)
  • Weds, Dec 19th at 7:15pm (Brighton - New Location, do share with friends!) RSVP Here

Awakin Movie Circle: CRAZYWISE - Tues. 8th Jan (Pimlico)

We are delighted to welcome internationally-renowned filmmaker and social documentary photographer, Phil Borges, to our home in Pimlico early in the new year to screen and share about his film, CRAZYWISE. Phil worked as a dentist until a deep love for photography lured him permanently away from the drill. He spent the next quarter of a century documenting the world's disappearing cultures. A journey that took him high into the remote mountains of Asia and deep into the forests of the Amazon. A journey that led him to join as a guest speaker at an Awakin Circle in Santa Clara, featured on DailyGood and now brings him to our living room for an Awakin Movie Circle on January 8th during a visit to London!

"Crazy…or wise? The traditional wisdom of indigenous cultures often contradicts modern views about a mental health crisis. Is it a ‘calling’ to grow or just a ‘broken brain’? The documentary CRAZYWISE explores what can be learned from people around the world who have turned their psychological crisis into a positive transformative experience." Join us for the Awakin Movie Circle on Tuesday, January 8th at 7pm, where we plan to gather after dinner to watch the documentary, hear about Phil's personal journey, have a circle of sharing reflections and questions and conclude with tea and light refreshments. From our families to yours, wishing you much love and togetherness this festive season!

With love and gratitude,

Trishna, Ani, Mita, Vicky, Shamash and Ewa :)
