Greta Winton was surprised and confused when she uncovered a scrapbook containing the names of 669 children. Her husband, Nicholas Winton, had kept this book in their attic for 50 years. Nine months before the Second World War broke out, Nicholas assisted in removing Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia and transporting them to Britain. Nicholas wondered what had happened to the children, but didnt realize the full depth of his actions until a reunion on a BBC television program. His courageous acts have inspired charitable programs around the world, and put into action a legacy far beyond the endurance and heroism of one man. His ardor proves that the biggest measures can begin with one individual. Sir Nicholas Winton died on 1 July 2015 at age 106.
