April 2018 - Upcoming London Gatherings

"Ubuntu speaks of the very essence of being human.... you are generous, you are hospitable, you are friendly and caring and compassionate. You share what you have. It is to say, 'My humanity is inextricably bound up in yours.' We belong in a bundle of life."-- Desmond Tutu

We're looking forward to seeing many of you at this month's inspiring gatherings in London, with guests from California gracing the shores of London, including Nipun, the founder of ServiceSpace, and two revolutionary doctors, who are planting seeds to create a world where nobody dies from treatable diseases, regardless of their circumstances.

Awakin Circles: Camden, Pimlico, Harrow and Mill Hill

Each month, we host Awakin Circles at four locations throughout London, where we meditate for the first hour, engage in a circle of reflective sharing based on a reading in the second hour, and conclude by sharing a home-cooked vegetarian meal.

  • Weds, Mar 28th at 7pm (Mill Hill, North London)
  • Mon, Apr 9th at 6:30pm (Camden, Central London)
** Guest Speakers - Two Revolutionary Doctors (more info below, RSVP)
  • Weds, Apr 18th at 7pm (Harrow, Northwest London)
  • Tues, Apr 24th at 6:30pm (Pimlico, Central London)
** Guest Speaker - Nipun Mehta (more info below, RSVP)

Guest Speaker Awakin Circle with Two Revolutionary Doctors (April 9th, Camden)

Join us on Monday, April 9th at 6:30pm for a circle with two revolutionary doctors visiting from San Francisco en route to the Skoll World Forum at Oxford! Sriram Shamasunder and Phuoc Le first collaborated in the humanitarian response to the devastating 2010 Haiti earthquake. Several years later, as professors of medicine at UC San Francisco, they combined their decades of experience and strongly held beliefs in global health equity to found the HEAL Initiative. This moving video provides a snapshot of the spirit behind their work and Sri's TED Talk, "Whose Suffering Matters Less and Why?" offers a glimpse into their shared values. Join us on April 9th to hear stories from their personal journeys and experiences from serving vulnerable populations around the world, often seeing people die in front of their eyes from treatable diseases. Visit this event page for more info about our guest speakers and to RSVP to join!

Nipun's Visit: Awakin Circle (Apr 24th, Pimlico) and One-Day Retreat (Apr 22nd, Camden)

With each visit, Nipun (the founder of ServiceSpace) creates many inspiring ripples and at the end of April, we're so grateful he'll be swinging through London once again! Below are several events you're welcome to join in at!
  • Awakin Circle with Nipun in Pimlico on Tuesday, April 24th at 6:30pm (more info and RSVP here)
  • One-Day Retreat - "Soil, Soul and Society for a Happier World": We're excited to collaborate with the Happier World team as they host a one-day head, heart and hands retreat on Sunday, April 22nd from 9:30-5pm in Camden, where Nipun will also be joining! (more info and RSVP here)
  • Creating Ripples with Nipun Mehta: An interactive evening on Saturday, April 21st from 7:30pm in Kingsbury, gifted by friends at SCVP, a values-based education programme. (more info and RSVP here)
  • In addition, Nipun will be speaking at the two-day Happier World Conference on Saturday, April 21st. For those interested, fixed price, donation-based and and pay-it-forward tickets are still available :)

"From Me to We": Joyful Moments from Sunday's One-Day Retreat

Last Sunday, around 30 of us braved the snow to gather for a heart-opening one-day retreat at Mita's home, where we felt nourished by the warmth of the welcome and by the opportunity to listen to ourselves and each other, all while engaging with our heads, hands and hearts in the spirit of service. Anya summed it up beautifully in her opening share, when she said, "It’s not just about CREATING community but ACCEPTING community to start with. Accepting that ‘me’ has been a part of ‘we’, all along." We'll share more on the retreat in coming weeks, but in the mean time, enjoy this joyful collage of moments from our day together :)

It's going to be another inspiration-filled month coming up and we look forward to sharing this space with all of you!

With love and gratitude,

Trishna, Ani, Mita, Vicky and Rosa
