Be A Mr. Jenson

This is an incredibly inspiring video about an educator who chose to see a problem as a solution that changed a young child's life forever.

It is the story of a boy who kept tapping in class, in turn disturbing other teachers and student. This unnerving habit always landed him in trouble. Until one day Mr. Jenson keeps him after class, only to ask him - a question that changed his life completely. This boy who kept tapping unnerved in class, came to become one famous drummer and motivational speaker touring the world.

This video is a reminder to look at the unique gift that every child has. How do we tap into the untouched potential of these children? How do we cultivate our eyes to see the good in others? And how do you build that field and container for a child to blossom that can turn his weakness to his strength? - KindfulKids Parent [see video here]

Title: It's OK to be Different: A Children's Picture Book About Diversity and Kindness

By: Sharon Purtill

Ages: 2-5 years

"Every Child is Unique! Whether they are big or small, short or tall, like to swim, dance, sing or bike. Perhaps they have a special need or are from a different ethnic background. Maybe they wear glasses or talk differently. The truth is that all children are different and their individuality should be celebrated, not shunned. And this inspiring and brightly illustrated rhyming picture book does just that.

By highlighting the ways kids are different from one another it helps children to accept themselves and others as the beautifully unique individuals that they are. It's OK to be Different encourages kids to be kind and befriend those who are different from themselves, showing young children that they don't have to look alike or enjoy doing the same activities to be kind to one another.

Readers will come away with the message: "You should always be kind to those who are different from you. Because to them, YOU are different too." - Publishers

Be the Change

Today take the time to pause and reflect on all the things that appear as weakness in our children. Can you tune into that and turn it into a strength. As you practice looking beyond the obvious for a child, take a pause and find that strength within you as a parent too. Perhaps what may appear as a weakness, may be a strength waiting to be discovered in disguise.
