Quote of the Week

"Father is the noblest title a man can be given. It is more than a biological role. It signifies a patriarch, a leader, an exemplar, a confidant, a teacher, a hero, a friend." - Robert L. Backman

Seven TV Shows That Highlight The Best In Fatherhood

It's interesting to see how much role media plays in our lives as we navigate through the growing years and changing opinions based on life incidences and such. What if media flipped the current narrative to show us what's more wholesome and meaningful and that indeed we as a human race are more than what we think we are. A recent survey touched upon a small aspect of the role media plays in society today and how that's shifting a narrative that is so rooted in our conditionings,  challenging the very norms we thought were normal.

"For decades, TV fathers came in one of three flavors: idealized, bumbling, or absent. [...] When our crack team of TV watchers surveyed today’s paternal landscape, we found representations of fathers have evolved and diversified quite a lot. There are still one-note dads who set the kitchen on fire cooking dinner, but we’re also seeing more and more complex depictions of fathers as learning and growing alongside their children. Title: Dad By My Side
By: Soosh
Ages: 5-6

Why? "Making her debut, Soosh introduces a loving dad with a red mullet, curly beard, and wide, sloping shoulders. His daughter, a tiny girl with long, dark hair, describes the ways he nurtures, teaches, and supports her: “He tells the best stories. He makes me feel cozy. He protects me from monsters under the bed.” Soosh renders father and daughter in loose, stippled watercolors, capturing them in casual moments of togetherness—cuddling on the couch, sewing a garment, cooking, peering through a telescope, or marking the child’s height on the wall. Even when he is away, “he doesn’t miss a single lullaby” by calling her on the phone. With great tenderness, Soosh conveys the many important roles that a father plays in a child’s life—roles that can change from moment to moment." - Reviewer
