Quote of the Week

"Nature is painting for us, day after day, pictures of infinite beauty." - John Ruskin

Kid Warrior For The Earth

Once in a while you stumble upon something so simple and yet so inspiring; that changes the way you look at life, the way you look at the world and the way you look at our home - planet Earth. Here's a video about such young minds and hearts, who've stepped out and stepped up, to make a difference for our home that we share together - one neighborhood at a time, one heart at a time.

"Xiuhtezcatl Martinez is 14 years old, and committed to changing the world. This self-described "indigenous, environmental, eco hip hop artist and activist" is also the youth director of Earth Guardians, a nonprofit that empowers young people around the world to become involved in environmental activism. "The biggest challenge we face is shifting human consciousness, not saving the planet." Martinez says. "Because the planet doesn't need saving; we do." [Watch Video]

Title: The Adventures of a Plastic Bottle: A Story About Recycling
By: Alison Inches
Ages: 4-6

"Learn about recycling from a new perspective! Peek into this diary of a plastic bottle as it goes on a journey from the refinery plant, to the manufacturing line, to the store shelf, to a garbage can, and finally to a recycling plant where it emerges into it's new life...as a fleece jacket!  Told from the point of view of a free-spirited plastic bottle, kids can share in the daily experiences and inner thoughts of the bottle through his personal journal. The diary entries will be fun and humorous yet point out the ecological significance behind each product and the resources used to make it. Readers will never look at a plastic bottle the same way again!" - Publishers

Be the Change

Here's an interesting activity you can try as a family, which National Geographic put together for kids in a classroom with the intention to bring awareness towards Earth Day on April 22nd.

For families in the Bay Area (California), a few Kindful Kids parents and volunteers have organized a beautiful gathering of planting seeds in celebration of Earth Day, this Sunday, April 22nd from 4-6pm!  For more info and to RSVP to join the fun, visit this event page!
