For the next few weeks I am staying with some close friends of mine out of state - a couple with three kids (the kids - 14, 11 and 3 - I have known all their lives). The Dad had heart surgery on Monday. It feels important to be here helping where I can but, at the same time, I am missing my grandmother, my friend (she now takes to calling me her “special friend”) and of course -my ever supportive love, john.
John said he would check in with her while I am gone.
He saw her today and wrote me the note below.

So I had a great visit w/bachan.
She did it all.
We went to patio - sat in the sun and talked before doing the new word search book you got her which she appreciated.
It was a sincere conversation to be forgotten in the next moment
but lets me in on her perceptions like you die like you live
So she'll die in her sleep w/o physical problems /pain
according to her she's happy and kept holding my hands -strong as ever.
In the activity area where I took her - at the end, the red head /younger woman in the wheelchair, who is very verbal said, “no matter who she sits next to, bachan will touch them/encourage them etc”..
In the hallway, she stopped at the asian man sitting in the recliner
and said, “come on, you have to stay active -come w/us.”
Out by the front door, she sipped coffee I brought her and an indian woman and her son came out - bachan said, “sit w/us” and they did. The woman had fallen resulting in a broken shoulder but during the operation she couldn't breathe so they forced a tube down her throat - it did damage so she can't talk but she cried when bachan stroked her hair and said it will be alright.
Bachan is a saint and people totally appreciate it
Don't worry about her Mia … ☺

I am so grateful to know both of these beautiful people – John and this woman, we call bachan …
