Nature As A Teacher

The break in the rain offered the opportunity to resume my favorite walk. Here are some thoughts offered up as I immersed myself in the beauty of nature around me.

A snap-shot of the sun is not enough to tell whether the sun is setting or rising. They look pretty much the same. Only with context, such as passing of time, we may be able to say whether we are seeing a sunrise or a sun set. So, in life, a snap shot is not enough to make a discerning judgment.

The water reflecting the beautiful sun-light filtered through the clouds was shimmering like silver and gold. Don't take my word for it. Pause a moment to see it in the phone-picture I captured above. The very next thought was why do I describe something so magically beautiful by comparing it to silver and gold? Who told me that these are precious metals? And why did I buy into that? My language itself corrupts my thoughts. Water & sunlight are life giving. They are precious beyond the inert silver and gold.

The birds in the marshes stood in silent mediation by the reflecting pools. They kept their routines through the rainy weather, while I was deterred by the rains to seek shelter and remain indoors. They are clearly a higher life form as they are natural born yogis, while I am a struggling wannabe.
