Years ago, my mother taught me how to repair tears in clothing by reweaving (called darning). I repaired a tear in an old tussar silk fabric and as I worked on it, I felt a connection to the weaver who must have spent hours weaving this fabric. There was a quiet sense of satisfaction in restoring it to use again with this repair. Shortly after that, I attended a spiritual gathering where the topic was on letting go. I questioned myself: if I was repairing carefully because I had trouble letting go? Then I told myself to let go of the pride I felt in repair, and let go of the judgment in whether I restored to hold on or not, and simply be. I am thankful to my mother for giving me this skill, that made this experience possible.
