I've been watching several documentaries on Netflix as of late. Carol said to me, "you might enjoy this one"; Monk with a Camera. What an amazing story about Nicholas Vreeland's journey from a young man to the Abbot of Rato Dratsang. Nicky's reflection on his own photography, about it being virtuous or non-virtuous hit home. In the end, it was fitting and beautiful that Nicky's photography helped to get the Rato Monestary built. There was a point in the film where I wasn't sure if what I heard the Dali Lama say right or not, but I did hear correctly. Nicky, Rinpoche, and His Holiness were having a private conversation (well, aside from the film crew); His Holiness, as he giggles and affectionately strokes Rinpoche's hand says, "this stupid lama." My guess is that he is playfully jabbing Rinpoche for leaving the Monkhood many years earlier. Or, was there something else behind it? Anyway, I highly recommend the film
