This is the first year, since she was a baby, that Sareena was not scared to visit Santa -- in fact it was her idea to go and see him, so off we went! Sareena has been on an acts of kindness spree recently and she didn't miss a beat today. As we were getting ready to leave home to visit Santa, Sareena suddenly got really excited and said that she wanted to gift Santa a Christmas card that she made along with a Smile Card (she also wanted to take some Christmas chocolates for him, but I wasn't sure if he would accept food, so I encouraged her to only take a card) :) As soon as we walked into the grotto this afternoon, along with a handful of other families, Sareena walked straight up to Santa and said, "Santa I made this card for you," as she handed it to him along with a Smile Card. It was so sweet to see the surprise on his face, as I'm sure it's not often that kids turn up with gifts for him! It was inspiring for me to see how Sareena's usual fear/anxiety about Santa was transformed to smiles as she naturally overcame her fear in the process of offering an act of kindness to him. At the end of our visit, as Santa gave Sareena a high-five when they said their goodbyes, I could see pure joy in Sareena's smile.
