Was really inspired by a good friend's story yesterday: One day last week, she was walking through an office building in a bit of a rush. Everyone there also seemed in a hurry, walking into the building scrolling through their smartphones. She was in the same mode, but for some reason that day, it really struck her. Checking her phone and readying to move to her next meeting, she noticed a blind woman at the door. As the woman came in with her walking stick, she seemed familiar with the building, yet slowly and patiently felt her way through the entryway. Then, as she neared the receptionist, she said, "Hello." Suddenly, my friend realized-- out of the twenty or so people who had walked into the building so far, this blind woman was the only one who greeted the receptionist. Even though she was unable to physically see the receptionist, she still had the capacity to "see" her-- to acknowledge, appreciate, and share presence with her. And, in fact, she was the only one who did. It was so beautiful to hear about such a micro-moment of love, and a sweet reminder of how those simple gestures and noticing of small details really make all the difference!
