A beautiful Awakin gathering yesterday evening at my place in NYC, where Nipun's presence gave us an excuse to join in meditation and presence :) After the formal sit, the discussion naturally moved towards the topics of listening and 'creating space' - these are absolutely essential skills in all walks of life and while seemingly obvious are quite difficult to develop and practice! There were some great shares all around, from the impact of technology on youth's ability to listen, to the value of a meditative practice in learning to listen, to listening at levels well beyond words. So grateful for the opportunity to connect in this way! To close the circle, Nipun's comment summed it up well - 'As we go forward in life, I hope you continue to say 'yes'... to circles :)'

Birju, thank you so much for creating the space for us to come together! It was a beautiful evening. There was a thought bubbling up when we spoke about technology that became a little clearer. I was thinking about how so many people are commenting on how technology is taking the time away from thinking and of course I agree with that perspective. At the same time what immediately popped into my mind was a time before technology when I was in my 20’s and I sat to meditate for the first time. I was so addicted to thought that I could not let go and after 5 minutes, I got up and decided I was not ready for this kind of suffering J. Two hours of meditation a day, and many long meditation retreats later, I got even more of a sense of my addiction to thought. Freedom from thought is [...]
