A note we received today ...
"My dad is addicted to news and it's terrible for his morale and disposition. He wakes up in the morning and first thing checks the mass media internet news, then watches the political talk shows mid morning, has lunch then walks to the library and reads all the papers from the Chronicle to NY Times, then comes home and watches the evening news from 4:30pm-7pm. And after dinner he'll usually put on some evening political debate show. And every day all he can talk about how corrupt so and so is, or how many people died here, or how dangerous the most banal thing can be, (I just found out thanks to him that the contact lens solution brand I use sometimes can cause blindness). And when I ask him to tell me one bit of good news all he can tell me is how a bad thing happened to a certain politician he doesn't like...and how that's a good thing! He doesn't realize it but all this news makes him a scared, bitter, angry person...no good!
Now I've taken it as a personal mission to forward him happy, inspirational news stories that I come across and the Quote of the Day is most consistent source for this. It's great because I can actually discuss happy things with him when I get home instead of always hearing about all the depressing stuff.
Maybe you could pass along my thanks to whoever puts that daily service together...they're helping me help my dad become a happier person.
