A beautiful note reached me this a.m. about a shirt that one of the Ekatva girls, Chandani, wanted to gift. Most touching was the sensitivity, thoughtfulness, and deep values that informed whom she chose to offer the gift-- to an orphan looked after by one of her teachers who inspires her with his bravery and fortitude!
Our very own Jagatbhai takes care of 9-year-old Karan and his 14-year-old sister, Tejaswini, because they had become orphans at a very young age. Although they stay with Jagatbhai, the two children try to do as much as they can without asking for help from anyone. This includes studying, making their own food, and finding transportation. Losing their parents at such a tender age was harder for Karan than it was for Tejaswini because Tejaswini kept herself busy by assuming the role of Karan’s caretaker, but Karan had no way of keeping himself busy and took a longer time adjusting to a life without his parents. Knowing all of this, Chandani felt the urge to give something to Karan for being so brave.
