Quote of the Week

"Nature doesn't hurry yet everything is accomplished" - Lao Tzu

A Slow School

Last couple of years have allowed people all over the world to slow down, take a pause and rethink about the meaning and purpose of education and schools. It has allowed us to look deeper into questions like "where does my food come from?"

One of the key aspects of education is about equipping our children with the ability to act responsibly in a complex society. The idea of a 'Slow School' brings to mind an institution where students have time to discuss, argue, and reflect upon knowledge and ideas, and so come to understand themselves and the culture they will inherit. Title: An Integral Education for Growth and Blossoming
By: Fabrice Dini
For: Educators and Parents

This book is built on the solid foundations of Integral Education. It is an approach that combines in a coherent and subtle way all the aspects of a child's development – physical, emotional, mental and inner. From techniques to develop mental faculties – memorization, concentration, visualization – to tools to better manage stress and cultivate self-confidence in children and adolescents. It also presents the currents shaping the future of education: Mindfulness, emotional intelligence, positive psychology, outdoor education, ethics, character strengths and fundamental human qualities in education, etc. All of these represent tools for parents and teachers to discover and explore.

Enhanced by numerous diagrams, tables, and colour illustrations, the book is aimed at teachers, presenting a variety of interactive exercises and activities, from discussions and games to breathing techniques and meditation methods simplified for adolescents and children. It includes sections on the role of the adult and importance of teaching by example, and the future of education in a rapidly changing world. The text is supplemented with statistics and findings from modern-day research as well as quotes, anecdotes, and case studies that add a depth of detail designed to encourage and support teachers to provide children with a well-rounded approach to learning.

Be The Change

Reflect about an action or an aspect of your life where you feel things are going faster than what you would prefer. This week take an extra pause in that area and see what emerges when you allow yourself to take 'slow' actions.
